Change of leadership at the IFF

A change of leadership is to first September 2011 at the Institute for Industrial Manufacturing and Management (IFF) at the University of Stuttgart. After 16 years of leadership of the IFF and the Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Engineering and Automation IPA, Professor Engelbert Westkämper ruled out due to age.

Thomas Bauerhansl is from 1 September 2011 Head of the Institute of Industrial Manufacturing and Management (IFF) at the University of Stuttgart and the Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Engineering and Automation IPA.



New head of both institutions, Dr.-Ing. Thomas Bauerhansl (42), appointed on the takeover of institutions to full professor.

Thomas Bauerhansl studied mechanical engineering at the RWTH Aachen and received his doctorate there in 2002 on "Assessment of synergies in Mechanical Engineering" with distinction. After his graduation in 2003 was Thomas Bauerhansl at Freudenberg KG in various positions: as assistant to the company's management, as managing director in the field of tool and as a spokesman. Since 2007, he held the position of Head of Technology Center Europe in the category of sealing and vibration control. Recently it was his responsibility as Head of Global Process Technology, the professional management of the production at over 50 locations in Europe, USA, USA, Mexico and Brazil. His work focuses on the segmentation of production and location planning, factory planning, production relocation and start-up management, lean production, technology management and investment planning, and manufacturing were the forming tools.

Prof. Westkämper commented on the replacement: "With Dr. Thomas Bauerhansl, I will replace the next winter semester, a colleague who not only has a lot of industry experience, but is also placed on research and teaching, excellent." Westkämper remain in their own words the research related to production, "to contribute to the vision and priorities of future EU-programs and the issue of global production."
